Free the Migrants! All Workers United!
Fight For Workers Liberation!

Through united struggles—strikes, organizing, and militant action—we can build working-class unity and confront the system at the root of our oppression.

The path to our liberation is the solidity of an all workers united front to confront and take down the imperialist system that is the cause of our suffering and hardship!

What is the Free the Migrants Campaign?

The Free the Migrants campaign is a grassroots movement led by migrants and workers, where migrant workers play a leading role. It creates space for us to educate ourselves about the economic crisis, understand its root causes, and take action against those who exploit us—from employers and corporations to immigration systems and governments, where we are neglected, and wars are waged on us.

Through this campaign, we build connections across workplaces and borders, across home and host countries, strengthening solidarity and gaining allies in the fight for our rights and livelihoods.

Most importantly, it is a campaign through which we can build our own power to fight those who live off our misery, and build a world of unity, justice, and peace where all have the freedom to live, work, migrate, and return home on our own terms.

Why is this campaign being launched?

The shared livelihood struggles between migrants and workers provide a basis for collective unity and collective action, especially as the global crisis pushes us into deeper hardship and exploitation.

Despite this, we migrants and workers are the main force capable of transforming society. Migrant workers are part of the international working class—linked to both host and home countries—and must hold all governments accountable for exploitation and forced migration.

The Free the Migrants campaign affirms that migrant liberation is inseparable from the liberation of the entire working class. We can achieve this by waging shared struggles in every country and locality, addressing exploitation, labor rights, housing, and access to social services, to foster working-class unity.

Build an all-worker united front!

We should develop a platform for cooperation that unites workers and migrants to combat the systemic exploitation of the toiling masses. This platform for cooperation should serve to build a strong united front of workers and migrants. The Free the Migrants campaign can support the building of AWU in the localities, neighborhoods and workplaces.

We should form All Workers United (AWU) in the Global North and the Global South to coordinate the struggles of the workers, organize workers in every community and workplace, and hold capital and governments accountable for the poverty and destitution of workers and toilers.

Objectives of the Free the Migrants Campaign

  • Conduct widespread education on the current economic crisis and its impact on working people, paying special attention to migrants as the most oppressed section of the working class
  • Strengthen working class solidarity between migrants and workers to build their own political power. Encourage workers and migrants to organize themselves, and promote cooperation and coordination among workers associations, migrant organizations and trade unions.
  • Conduct local and national struggles focused on the economic concerns of the working people and take on issues such as living wage, prices of basic necessities, consumption taxes, housing and the economic crisis exacerbated by imperialist wars.
  • Mobilize migrants and workers to take up militant forms of action against their exploiters and oppressors (i.e. employers, traffickers, state governments, financial institutions, etc).

Research Papers on Migrant Workers from the Asia Pacific Research Network

Both studies surface the same sobering pattern: migrant workers are recognized as essential to the economy, but acceptance often stops at economic utility. The research points clearly to where change must come from: meaningful, reciprocal interaction; education that names the neoliberal and imperialist structures behind forced migration; and communication that elevates migrant voices over fear-driven misinformation.

GWSC 2025 Kathmandu Communique

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

The Global Workers Study Conference 2025 held on October 28-30 in Kathmandu, Nepal, attended by over 116 participants from 21 countries, brought together the voices of workers, unionists, women, and migrants from the Global North and the Global South to share their lessons and insights as well as ideas and recommendations to further collaborate on the various issues and struggles of workers. A total of 28 panelists and resource speakers from around the world discussed various issues and topics, including informality, women and work, debt and wages, fascist attacks and how to build solidarity from among the ranks of the workers and other toilers.

From the GWSC 2025 comes a declaration of commitment to build a new global platform for cooperation, the All Workers United.

All Workers United (AWU), shall be a cooperation of worker organizations and associations, trade unions, migrant organizations, working women’s organizations, and other organizations of toilers from the Global North and the Global South. It shall be built with a minimum of at least 3 workers organizations/associations and trade unions to start. Its main functions will be to:

  • Organize workers together across sectors and enterprises
  • Coordinate workers struggles
  • Hold capital and governments accountable to the plight and issues of working people and other toilers

All Workers United can have local, regional, national and global coordination. A secretariat shall be constituted to facilitate global coordination and collaboration among All Workers United in the countries and regions.

The formation of the All Workers United resulted from the unity points achieved at the GWSC reflected in the following statement:

GWSC Unity Statement

All Workers, Unite!

Rise up, resist all-out attacks against our ranks, and fight for freedom from exploitation and oppression

We are suffering from severe conditions of poverty and destitution

Wages, jobs, social protection, and the welfare of working peoples’ families are under attack from all fronts by the collusion of capital and governments. Insurmountable debt, soaring prices of housing and social services, excessive taxation, austerity measures, and skyrocketing prices on basic necessities drive down wages and drive up the cost of living to make workers poorer today compared to 15 years back. Unemployment and underemployment are rampant, pushing millions of people into informality and worse precarity, especially for women who carry multiple burdens to also care for their families while bearing brunt of the economic crisis. War and conflict erases jobs, livelihood and futures for our children.

In all sectors, in the Global North and in the Global South, it is a race to the bottom for the rights of workers. Exploitation is relentless, sacrificing the livelihood and life of workers in the interest of profits.

We are under attack from all sides

Capitalists and their protectors in governments are well-organized and coordinate to extract the most from workers and plunder every ounce of resources available. Their incessant competition for maximum profits leads to deadly wars, draining national budgets for social needs to bloat military budgets for war.

The exploiters are raising the ante of the struggle, enacting xenophobic policies, whipping up anti-migrant hysteria and attempting at every chance to divide and destroy the ranks of the working people to rake in more profits. They attack the people of the North and the South economically, politically, culturally and militarily, never hesitating to unleash fascist violence to extinguish the will to fight.

We will collectively fight back

To be a worker is to fight a system built on exploitation. To be a worker is to stand in solidarity with all who toil – from factories to shops to street corners, from construction sites to plantations to kitchens, from the formal workforce to the intermittent to the invisible.

Because we know that our unity and solidarity is our collective weapon against common enemies.

The ground rumbles from the millions marching in unity, brought together by our collective resolve. Our efforts to organize and lead our communities, our workplaces, our streets are bearing fruit. We are breaking the old power dynamics and re-shaping a new system of social relations.

We commit to raise our level of struggle

All workers, unite! Rise, with eyes open! Learn how every stock and venture of exploitation operates, and master how we can break the operations of capitalist exploitation and oppression.

We commit to build our strength

All workers, unite! Rise, standing shoulder-to-shoulder! Build power from the unity of all workers in every locality, build the unity of all workers’ organizations, and forge international solidarity across borders.

We commit to unite and fight

All workers, unite! Rise, with fists clenched and legs marching! Step towards the future free from oppression and exploitation. Unite to fight and win a bright future for humanity.

Therefore we commit to build All Workers United.

We look forward to further advancing the struggle of workers with you! GWSC 2025
