Statement of the Resist NATO Campaign
The organizations of the Resist NATO campaign condemn in the strongest degree the blatant aggression by the Zionist entity of “Israel” against the Islamic Republic of Iran with the full backing of the US and other NATO states. We call to continue the fight to expose and oppose NATO’s backing of wars of aggression around the world and to support the self-defense of nations like Iran and the liberation of all peoples such as the people of Palestine.
On the early morning of June 13th, “Israel” carried out airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities. While these targeted military bases and nuclear research sites, they indiscriminately targeted civilian apartments and infrastructure such as water treatment plants. As of the late afternoon on the same day, at least 96 have been confirmed killed and 364 injured. This act continues to prove the Zionist entity’s utterly aggressive and genocidal nature in its quest to dominate the entire region.
NATO stands fully behind “Israel’s” actions. “Israel” is designated as a “major non-member ally” through the so-called Mediterranean Security Dialogue, giving them key influence within the NATO alliance and full political and military backing by the member states. “Israel” is also armed by key NATO members, especially the US, but also Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, and many others. This means that the bombs dropped on Iran were de facto handed to them by NATO. Both the US and Germany confirmed that they were informed beforehand of “Israel’s” plans and did nothing to prevent them from being implemented, and both the US and UK offered air support in protecting “Israel” from retaliation. Despite the UK, Canada, and Norway imposing sanctions on the most openly fascist members of “Israel’s” government, each NATO state has maintained their stance that they will do whatever it takes to protect the existence of this Zionist entity that acts as a US-NATO satellite state in West Asia. When NATO states call for “de-escalation” of the situation, what they mean is to leave genocidal “Israel” alone.
The US and “Israel” have justified this attack as a move to stop Iran from producing nuclear weapons, something Iran has claimed up to the day of the attack itself that it has no intention of doing. But the so-called nuclear talks between the US and Iran were only a ruse for the US and “Israel” to smear Iran in the media and try and falsely paint this attack as a “preemptive strike.” The US and its NATO partners France and the UK have held the world hostage with the threat of nuclear strikes on states opposing NATO’s war strategy for over half a century. Using the threat of non-NATO states obtaining or using nuclear weapons is the same rhetoric used to justify the NATO proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. The US is the number one nuclear threat in the world, and the NATO states that hold their own nuclear arsenal and who willingly host the US’s nuclear arsenal are the ones who should be disarmed of their nuclear weapons to achieve a just and lasting peace in the world.
By giving the people of Europe another false enemy in the guise of the Islamic Republic of Iran, NATO members will have a renewed justification for increasing military spending and continuing the brutal proxy war in Ukraine, still ongoing for over three years. This military spending will continue to bleed dry the people’s need for spending on housing, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and many other needs that are disappearing fast in the face of pro-war austerity measures.
Finally, it must be remembered that the struggle for a free Palestine is still at the heart of the matter. The Zionists have been unable to break the unbeatable will of the Palestinian people and their resistance forces, no matter how much military aid the US and other NATO states throw at it. They are hoping that a war with Iran will make the world forget about Palestine, but the international united front for peace and liberation of the world has stood with Palestine and will continue to do so until the people are free from the River to the Sea.
Resist NATO calls for the peace movement in opposition to NATO to increase its militant protest against the US-Zionist attacks on Iran and to continue to advance peoples’ struggles for peace and liberation. The fights to defend Iran’s sovereignty and to liberate Palestine are two of the key issues for the global peace movement today, and are deeply connected to the fight to abolish NATO, the world’s most dangerous military alliance.
